Eve Communications is a Brooklyn-based startup that as of next week is offering a new service designed to lighten the load for families and caregivers. Known for its innovative approach to senior care, Eve is launching a new AI-powered device that bridges the gap between seniors and their loved ones.
Coinciding with National Family Caregivers Month, the service, set to roll out this Sunday, December 1, offers a simple yet groundbreaking way to provide care and connection. Eve, the company’s AI-driven companion, makes scheduled calls to seniors, asking critical questions about their well-being—whether they’ve eaten, taken their medication, or just need someone to talk to. The answers are sent as text updates to caregivers or family members, ensuring they stay informed without needing to check in constantly.
For caregivers like Sara Mitchell, whose aging mother lives alone, the service promises to be life changing. “It’s hard to be there all the time,” she said. “Something like this can give me peace of mind, knowing she’s not completely alone.”
Eve’s founder, Ivan Wicksteed, says the idea came from a deeply personal place. After losing his grandmother, who struggled with isolation, Wicksteed became determined to find a solution for the millions of seniors living alone.
“We’re facing an epidemic of loneliness,” Wicksteed explained. “For seniors, it’s not just a feeling—it’s a health crisis. Loneliness has been equated to smoking 15 cigarettes a day in terms of its impact on health. Eve is here to change that.”
The beauty of Eve is her simplicity. There’s no learning curve, no complex setup—just a form to fill out and then the calls come in while the caregiver gets the text confirmations of the discussions. For users, she is as simple as a phone call and a text message.
Caregivers often juggle full-time jobs, families, and the responsibility of looking after aging loved ones. National Family Caregivers Month highlights the growing strain on these individuals, making solutions like Eve especially timely.
“Caregiving is one of the hardest jobs in the world,” Wicksteed said. “It’s physically and emotionally draining, and it’s often thankless. If we can take even a small part of that burden off someone’s shoulders, it’s worth it.”
The service, priced at $30 a month, provides an affordable support system that gives caregivers peace of mind while engaging those who need it most. The technology behind Eve isn’t as simple as she sounds; however, at the end of the day the difference she makes with loved ones is priceless.
Beyond easing loneliness, Eve aims to help seniors stay mentally sharp. Daily conversations with the AI are designed to stimulate the brain, encouraging memory recall and cognitive engagement. Studies have shown that consistent mental stimulation can slow cognitive decline, and Eve’s personalized approach aligns with that research.
“For someone with dementia, Eve can be programmed to call several times a day and even use a familiar voice,” Wicksteed noted. “It’s not just about keeping someone company—it’s about improving their quality of life.”
As the company prepares to launch this new service next week, it’s also looking ahead to major international expansion. Eve is multilingual and adaptable, making her accessible for seniors around the world or right next door.
“The technology is there to make a real difference,” Wicksteed said. “This isn’t about gadgets or tech for tech’s sake. It’s about connection, dignity, and making life better for the people who need it most.”
